The Straight-Leg Jean Guide

Style guide · Denim

The straight-leg jean guide.

If skinny jeans feel a little dated and wide-leg feels like a lot, straight-leg is the sweet spot — clean, classic, and easy with everything you already own. These are the four pairs worth your money, from a budget best seller to one splurge.

Universal Thread high-rise vintage straight jeans in dark wash
The picks

Four pairs, four prices.

Start with the pair that fits your budget — every one of these earned its place.

Universal Thread vintage straight jeans, dark wash

01 · The Best Seller — Vintage Straight Jeans, Universal Thread

$26.60 · Target (on sale — reg $38)

My #1 selling jean, full stop — 488 of you grabbed a pair since September. High rise, three washes, and Regular, Short and Long inseams (rare at this price). One warning: the smaller sizes in Dark Wash sell out fast.

Z SUPPLY Muse high-rise straight denim in Light Year wash

03 · The Vintage-Feel Pair — The Muse High-Rise Straight, Z SUPPLY

$138 · Z SUPPLY

Mostly cotton with just a hint of stretch, so they hold their shape and break in like a great old pair of jeans. The Light Year wash is that perfect faded blue.

Pistola Lexi bowed straight jean in Artisan wash

04 · The Splurge — Lexi Bowed Straight Jean, Pistola

$188 · Pistola

The bowed leg is a little cooler than a classic straight, and it comes in 11 washes. Heads-up from the brand: these run large, so consider sizing down.

How I wear them

Three straight-leg outfit formulas

  • The everyday uniform: dark-wash straights + a chunky sweater, half-tucked + flats or sneakers.
  • The cuffed and cozy: the Bayeas cuffed pair + waffle-knit top + an open cardigan.
  • Light-wash casual: the Z SUPPLY pair + a white tee + a plaid button-down worn open over it.
Good to know

Which pair should I start with?

The Target pair. It’s under $40, it’s my community’s most-bought jean by a mile, and it comes in Short and Long inseams. If you want one investment pair, make it the Pistola.

How does the sizing run?

The Pistola Lexi runs large — the brand suggests sizing down. The Target pair comes in sizes 00–30 across three inseam lengths; the Z SUPPLY runs 24–31 and the Pistola 23–33.

Where do the shop buttons go?

Each button is my LTK link to the exact item, so you land right on the pair in the right store.
